This month marks the start of a project to implement a wiki infrastructure at MTS Allstream Enteprise Solutions. Led by Helix Commerce, the Altlassian Confluence wiki solution is first being introduced to the marketing department to share competitive intelligence data. Once this pilot project phase is completed we will extend the use of this tool to other departments to cover a variety of topics and objectives.
Although the use of wikis are nothing particularly new for members of our IT organization, the launch of this competitive intelligence wiki will mark the first mainstream implementation of a Web 2.0 application at MTS Allstream.
We recognize that this is just a baby step compared to how some companies are using social mediated technologies in the enterprise. For example, Cisco's Web 2.0 lead Damien Dunne told us that not only are blogs, wikis and podcasts used extensively by employees at Cisco, but they've even created an in-house YouTube where they allow staff to post videos on any topic. Like YouTube there's lots of irreverent stuff to be found but it's also alongside content that includes training videos, product overviews, news and the latest speeches from John Chambers.
I'll keep you posted on our progress as the pilot commences.
